Wilderness Side

Wilderness Side is an expression that only occurs four times and yet it places itself consistently west of the City of Zarahemla, and runs north to south:

Borders of the Land – between Nephi and Zarahemla (yes they were side-by-side)

And it came to pass that the people came to him throughout all the borders of the land which was by the wilderness side and it came to pass that they were baptized throughout all the land (Alma 8:5)

City of Ammonihah – on the west and north of Zarahemla

for behold the armies of the Lamanites had come in on the wilderness side into the borders of the land even into the city of Ammonihah and began to slay the people and to destroy the city. (Alma 16:2)

Land Bountiful (the following description is by the Lamanite King, from his viewpoint being of south of Nephite lands)

and also there was many Lamanites on the east by the seashore whither the Nephites had driven them and thus the Nephites were nearly surrounded by the Lamanites nevertheless the Nephites had taken possession of all the northern parts of the land  [i.e. north of the Lamanite Line of Possession] bordering on the wilderness at the head of the river Sidon from the east to the west round about on the wilderness side[west] on the north [i.e. north of the Lamanite Line of Possessioneven until they came to the land which they called Bountiful (Alma 22:29)

City Manti

and thus we did go forth with all our might against the Lamanites which were in the city of Manti and we did pitch our tents by the wilderness side which was near to the city [Manti] (Alma 58:13)

This proves that the City and Land of Manti was west of the head of the River Sidon, and that a stretch of wilderness ran north and south from the Land of Bountiful on the north, to the southern wilderness on the south and was probably a hill-valley-hill system that paralleled the Land of Zarahemla and enveloped Hermounts (a distinct wilderness area) and the mountain/wilderness areas that the Gaddianton Robbers retreated to or there is yet another parallel hill-valley-hill system that was Hermounts and/or the mountains the Gaddianton Robbers lived on.

–>If your model does not have a strip of wilderness running north and south west of Zarahemla, that runs from Bountiful on the north to Manti on the south, containing mountains and a distinct (Hermounts) area, it’s not a true representation of Book of Mormon lands.
